Non steady-state intersonic cracks in elastomer membranes under large static strain

چکیده

Dynamic crack propagation in elastomer membranes is investigated; the focus laid on cracks reaching speed of shear waves material. The specific experimental setup developed to measure presented details. protocol consists (1) stretching an membrane under planar tension loading conditions, then (2) initiating a small one side membrane. measured all along path both reference and actual configurations, including acceleration deceleration phases, i.e. non steady-state phases. influence prescribed stretch ratio analysed light these new experiments few previously published studies. Conclusions drawn for growth are extended conditions: perpendicular governs intersonic regime, role direction minor.

Intersonic shear cracks and fault ruptures

Recent experimental observations of intersonic shear rupture events that occur in a variety of material systems have rekindled interest in the intersonic failure phenomenon. Since the early 1990s, engineers and scientists working in all length scales, from the atomistic, the structural, all the way up to the scale of the earth’s deformation processes, have undertaken joint e€orts to study this ...

Steady-state mode III cracks in a viscoelastic lattice model

We extend the Slepyan solution of the problem of a steady-state crack in an infinite ideally brittle lattice model to include dissipation in the form of Kelvin viscosity. As a demonstration of this technique, based on the Wiener-Hopf method, we apply the method to mode III cracks in a square lattice. We use this solution to find the critical velocity at which the steady-state solution becomes i...

Steady-state mode I cracks in a viscoelastic triangular lattice

We continue our study of the exact solutions for steady-state cracks in ideally brittle viscoelastic lattice models by focusing on mode I in a triangular system. The issues we address include the crack velocity versus driving curve as well as the onset of additional bond-breaking, signaling the emergence of complex spatio-temporal behavior. Somewhat surprisingly, the critical velocity for this ...

Pseudo Steady State Gas Flow in Tight Reservoir under Dual Mechanism Flow

Gas reservoirs with low permeability (k<0.1 mD) are among the unconventional reservoirs and are commonly termed as "Tight Gas Reservoirs". In conventional gas reservoirs that have high permeability, the flow of gas is basically controlled by the reservoir permeability and it is calculated using the Darcy equation. In these reservoirs, gas flow due to gas diffusion is ignored compared to Dar...

Replacement Strategies in Steady State Genetic Algorithms: Static Environments

This paper investigates the effects of a number of replacement strategies for use in steady state genetic algorithms. Some of these (deleting the oldest, worst or random members, or deletion by “Kill Tournament”) are well known from the literature. The last, “conservative” replacement was developed for use in timevarying problems and combines a Replace–Oldest strategy with modified selection to...
